Taiko Conference 2009!

Monday, July 20th, 2009

On Ensemble will be teaching and performing at the 2009 Taiko Conference here in Los Angeles! The bi-annual Conference is one of the taiko community’s most important events and we’re extremely excited about it!  On Ensemble is facilitating the Summer Taiko Institute immediately prior to Conference, where participants will receive and help complete a new composition for the community!  Each of On Ensemble’s members will teach one or more workshops within the Conference itself.  We’ll be performing at the two Taiko Jam concerts.  And Kris will also be debuting his four, brand-new “taiko games” with the help of taiko players from around the country!  It’ll be a busy, fun week!

Register for Taiko Conference here.  Registration due by July 24!

Get tickets to Taiko Jam here.

Come see Kris’ demonstration, Friday August 7 at 12noon on the JACCC Plaza (244 S San Pedro St, 90012)!

On Ensemble to play at Taiko Jam

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Great news!  On Ensemble will be performing at Taiko Jam 2009.  Taiko Jam is a concert featuring North American taiko groups curated by the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center and held in conjunction with the bi-annual North American Taiko Conference.  We performed at Taiko Jam back in 2003 and it is one of the most fun concerts to perform in because it’s for an audience full of taiko players.

Also performing at Taiko Jam will be be Kishin Daiko of West Covina, Kaminari Taiko from Las Vegas and Portland Taiko led by former On Ensemble member Michelle Fujii.  Should be a fun taiko packed concert and I’m especially looking forward to seeing what Michelle has been up to with Portland Taiko.  Since Mich left us to become the Artistic Director of Portland Taiko I haven’t been able to see them play live yet.  I’m also looking forward to sharing the stage with my cousin Julie who plays with Kaminari Taiko and Kishin Daiko one of the bedrock groups in the Southern California taiko community.  Kishin is filled with great players and its open multi-ethnic, multi-generational attitude is perfect for SoCal and makes them one of my favorite groups.
