ShastaYama live streaming this Saturday!

Friday, July 27th, 2012

Great news! ShastaYama 2012 will be streaming live tomorrow!

ShastaYama Live Streaming, FREE!
Saturday, July 28, 2012
concert starts at 6pm,

Thanks to the hard work of John Cumming, Mario Rubio, Shinya, SnowCrest Internet, and others, the concert will be streamed live tomorrow night! This is our first attempt at live streaming, and the technical challenges are significant. But if everything continues to work through tomorrow evening, anyone with an internet connection will be able to see ShastaYama 2012!

John and Shinya have used a series of high-bandwidth repeaters to build a wireless link from the rustic Shastice Park venue to an internet provider in town. John will be managing a multi-camera shoot of the concert from where the data is converted to wireless, reflected off a scoreboard to a tiny clearing on a hill, and beamed down into town. It’s crazy, and ingenious.

The streaming video should be viewable on desktop as well as mobile devices (Android and iPhone) by visiting The show starts at 6!

The concert preparations are coming along smoothly. Russel and Jeanne (Maz’ parents) are amazing at pulling this incredible event together. This year’s show is going to be particularly special, with Shasta Taiko debuting new pieces, San Jose Taiko playing two sets, and guest artists Michelle Fujii and Toru Watanabe. Maz and I will be debuting our new beginning section of Jack Bazaar.

If you’re anywhere near Mt Shasta, please come! ShastaYama is one of the best taiko events anywhere in the world. If attending isn’t an option, please tune in to the live stream!

Wish us luck!

Next up: ShastaYama!

Maz and I will be heading up to Mt Shasta this weekend in preparation for the great ShastaYama show! I’m particularly excited about this year’s concert. San Jose Taiko will be playing two sets and everyone is raving about San Jose Taiko these days. Toru Watanabe and Michelle Fujii will be performing Lost Man, one of my favorite dance and taiko pieces. And Maz and I will be debuting a new beginning for Jack Bazaar with help from Franco and Rylan of SJT. Hopefully no dropped batchi this year!

July 4 bike tour

Wednesday, July 4th, 2012

Following our successful ride to the TaikoProject show last weekend, Hiro and I head out today for a four-day bike tour. We’ll go about 140 miles round-trip, seeing the Huntington Beach fireworks show, visiting a few vegan restaurants down south, and participating in a Surfrider Beach cleanup. Should be fun!

Kelvin gets into town on the 7th for our Levitt Macarthur Park performance on Sunday. It’s a free show at a great venue… if you’re around, please come!
