Next up: Kenny Endo and On Ensemble TAIKO 2.0 Concert

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011

Our next performance is a TAIKO 2.0 concert with Kenny Endo at the San Luis Obispo performing arts center.  It’s always fun and inspiring to play with Kenny and his contemporary ensemble which features Eien Hunter-Ishikawa on vibraphone, Kaoru Watanabe on flutes and Charlene Huang on violin.  It should be a great performance.  Come check it out if you are in the area:

Tonight was the debut of the new arrangement of slant-drum movements Maz and I have been working on. We survived without dropping a batchi! Here’s a video of the piece from the rehearsal. Thanks to Maz, Shoji, and Kelvin for all the time they put into the piece!

Thank you also to the enthusiastic audience at tonight’s show, as well as Lisa Shimamoto (and Shojin vegan restaurant!) for the great, pre-concert food, and all the folks at the JACCC, the Torrance Cultural Arts Foundation, and the Armstrong Theater! Thank you also to our 2011 FoundatiOn Team donors who empowered this spurt of new creative work! It was an honor and joy to debut three new pieces!

Next Up: InventiOn 2011

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

Our next performance is a very special performance: ‘InventiOn 2011’ where will be debuting three new pieces made possible by our creative residency at the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center.  Our time at the JACCC has been great and has allowed us to focus more of our creative energy toward the creation of new work.  We’ll also be featuring a special guest artist Bharata Natyam dancer Anusha Kedhar.  If you are in the SoCal area come check it out this Saturday October 8th at the Armstrong Theater in Torrance, CA.
