taikoconference.org website redesign – phase 1 done!

Whew! After months of work, Taiko Conference registration is open! Assuming the fancy new website doesn’t melt into a messy mass of meta-data, I think the last-minute decision to redesign the site is paying off. We had 62 orders on the first day and everything seems to be holding together. The issues that popped up have been manageable — a minor miracle considering this was Ron and my first time setting up an online store with SSL and such.

Ron Golan is the main developer on the project and he’s been a dream to work with. The new site is based on Drupal and it seems like Ron can do just about anything. Ron is also Hiro and my architect for our mobile and modular house designs. The man bakes bread. He makes his own miso. He’s amazing, and Taiko Conference is lucky to have him. Thanks, Ron!

I’m sure there are bugs still lurking at the site, so if you find any problems or have suggestions, please let me know. Hope you like it!

  1. It looks like the site is down for now with a maintenance mode screen which says: “Site off-line
North American Taiko Conference is currently under maintenance. We should be back shortly. Thank you for your patience.” The last time I checked it looked great. I was inspired enough to download Drupal 7 and give it a spin… and you may have to teach me a thing or two… :)

After all our work the hosting provider has broken things when they upgraded hardware. :( I’m waiting for them to resolve the issue. Alas!

  3. I’ll keep checking back. I’m impressed by your patience and grace. If you remember, the last time I saw you, I was pulling out my hair and acting completely distracted because of the idea that an event website I didn’t build might be down for a few hours over night. I still appreciate all your help in that regard… I mean making me feel better about it and putting it in perspective as well as trying to work through the Joomla problem. If you need to use one of my hosting accounts to migrate the site there until the event happens, you are certainly free to do so.

Well, SiteGround has failed us but we’re moving to HostGator and thus far the service is much, much better. Now we’re just waiting for our new SSL certificate to be granted. Just when we had everything working perfectly! :)

I think you’ll like Drupal. It’s been great for TaikoConference.org!
