6-Month Practice Review – Dec 09

Today marks six months of closely tracking my taiko practice time.  Here’s a status report and some thank you’s!..

Total practice time Jun 22 – Dec 22 : 270.89 hours

Daily average : 1.5 hours

Predicted 10,000 hours completion at this rate : December 2021

Significant practice projects : small drum technique, nidan-uchi, matsuri daiko, new On Ensemble music, TaikoProject music, Err, Engine Room

I feel pretty good about these results.  Although my goal is 2 hours of daily practice, I’m realizing that my criteria for what counts toward my hours is very strict.  There were a few long days of On Ensemble or TaikoProject practice (8 or more hours) that only counted as an hour or less.  To count as practice hours, the time has to be spent actually playing and concentrating, so sessions of working on new music go quite a bit under-counted.

Thank you very much to Chris Huynh, Mark Nguyen, and David Wells for spending considerable practice time with me!  Thanks to On Ensemble for all the new challenges this year.  Thanks to Bryan Yamami and TaikoProject for letting me join practices.  Thanks to Matt Gallizzi for helping me implement the time tracking system.  And thanks to Hiroka Fujimoto for all the support!

If anyone else would like to join me for practice, please call or email me!

Woohooo! Awesome Kris. Glad to hear things are going well. :) Now that I’ve read that chapter in Outliers, I have a better idea of the why behind your project. I love it! Keep it up :)
