Taiko with Kanye West at the VMA

I didn’t watch the VMAs this year but heard that Kanye West sang his new song “Love Lockdown” with a bunch of taiko players as backup from Danny this morning. I searched the web and found the video but couldn’t find anything about who the taiko players were. According to Maz it was members from Zendeko and Kishin so I went to their website but couldn’t find any information… Can anyone confirm who it was?

Anyways, more great exposure for taiko! Seems like there is taiko everywhere these days! Great job to whoever was involved, it was a cool concept. Kanye West with back-up taiko robots… very cool.

You heard right. Zendeko and Kishin joined forces this past weekend at Paramount Studios at the B-Tank set for Kanye West’s debut of Love Lockdown. Good idea to put it on our site somewhere…We don’t get to updating it too often. How was Denver? I’m sure it was absolutely amazing!!

Sorry I guess I should’ve put this info also. Here’s a link to the high-res vid on MTV’s site http://www.mtv.com/overdrive/?id=1518072&vid=272698 . We were outfitted in some crazy SWAT like costumes. Helmets and all – so you can’t really see our faces. But it seems Kanye West seems to like using taiko a lot – TAIKOPROJECT recorded for his Glow in the Dark Tour, he had taiko with him at the finish line for the recent Nike Run and now taiko with him at the VMAs. Yay taiko!

Darren, great job at the VMAs, you guys looked quite stunning. I thought the SWAT taiko robot concept was pretty cool. From the Murakami album cover to the puppet Olympics “Champion” video Kanye West’s concepts are really what sets him apart from his hip-hop contemporaries. Must’ve been fantastic to be a part of!
